Newsletter: GOP Momentum Grows in San Antonio
Julie and I enjoyed seeing many friends a couple of weeks ago at the Bexar County Republican Party Chairman's Bar-B-Q. The event attracted longtime Republican activists as well as young families who are just starting to become active in our party.
The healthy turnout at the Bar-B-Q demonstrated the local GOP's growing momentum heading into the 2016 elections. The presidential race will generate robust interest in our March 1st primary, and I'm confident that this interest will translate into even more support for Republicans up and down the Bexar County ballot in November. Events like the Chairman's Bar-B-Q have laid the foundation needed for a successful election cycle, and I greatly appreciate the work of Chairman Stovall and everyone else who organized that event.
In fact, even though 2016 is still a few months away, there are plenty of signs of Republican enthusiasm in our community. Last week, I had the chance to visit with members of Bexar County Republican Women at the group's monthly membership meeting. And many of us crowded into Ray's Pizzaria in late September to hear an update from Governor Abbott. Plus, our state's critical role in the presidential primary will bring plenty of national candidates and their families to town in the months ahead.
The Republican Party remains strong across this state. In fact, over the last three elections, we have increased the number of Republicans serving in the Texas House from 76 to 98. Voters see that Republican leaders in Texas are delivering results that keep our economy strong and our future bright. With active volunteers and strong local leadership, 2016 is shaping up as another winning year for Republicans in Bexar County and across Texas.
