Newsletter: Good Candidates Win Across Texas
Voters across Texas have chosen strong Republican candidates to compete for seats in the Texas House this year.
When I announced last October that I would not run for re-election to the House in 2018, I said I would still remain active in the electoral process by supporting responsible Republican legislators and candidates. Thanks in large part to your generous support, I was able to give more than $1 million from my political funds to House candidates and Republican organizations during this year's primary and runoff elections. The goal was to help promote a thoughtful and serious approach to the state's challenges.
Candidates who share this approach performed very well, both in March and in last week's runoffs. In race after race across the state, Republican voters chose candidates who will provide strong and pragmatic leadership in the next legislative session. The election demonstrated that Republican voters appreciate the results that the Texas House has delivered. It also showed that voters want a continued emphasis on priorities such as education and economic growth.
The people who made these victories possible, of course, are the candidates. They worked hard and will continue to do so. As a result, Texans can be confident that some very good public servants will be on the ballot throughout Texas this year. That's good for the Republican Party and, more importantly, good for Texas.
I hope you and your family have a great Memorial Day Weekend. Please be safe and take time to remember, as we always should, the heroic men and women who have given their lives to defend and protect our great country.
