Speaker Straus Highlights San Antonio Small Business in First TV Ad

House Speaker Joe Straus highlights the importance of small businesses in the Texas economy in his first television ad of the 2016 campaign.

The ad features Mike Aikens of the Dealer Alternative auto shop in San Antonio, discussing how Speaker Straus has worked to help small businesses in San Antonio by keeping taxes low and regulations reasonable.

"A strong leader is all about getting results, like fighting for low taxes and less regulation to help businesses like ours grow, and that's what Joe Straus has done for us," Aikens says.

In the 2015 legislative session, Speaker Straus and his colleagues reduced the state's business margins tax by 25 percent. During his time as Speaker, Texas has consistently been a national leader in private-sector job growth.

In addition, Speaker Straus has formed a House committee to specifically examine how federal environmental regulations may impact the Texas economy.

Earlier this week, Speaker Straus was named a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business, the state's leading small-business organization.

"As Speaker of the Texas House, Joe Straus championed economic growth and helped cut taxes for families and businesses by 4 billion dollars," the ad says.

Speaker Straus is running in the March 1 Republican primary to continue representing House District 121 in northern Bexar County.
