Straus Campaign Gives $100,000 to Relief Effort
Speaker Joe Straus announced Friday that his political campaign is giving $100,000 to a newly created fund that will support rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Harvey.
The Rebuild Texas Fund was established with a $36 million from Michael and Susan Dell, who gave $18 million initially. The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation will give another $1 for every $2 raised over the Labor Day Weekend, up to $36 million.
"We cannot thank enough the first responders, volunteers, and local officials who have responded to Harvey's devastation with such bravery and generosity," Speaker Straus said. "In San Antonio, thousands of people and local leaders have become directly involved in efforts to help flood victims in Houston and those who evacuated to our city. We've been inspired by those who have donated everything from money to food to blood, plus the many local students collecting school supplies for children they've never even met."
Speaker Straus continued, "Michael and Susan Dell today announced a $36 million gift to establish, in partnership with the Governor, the Rebuild Texas Fund. My campaign is giving $100,000 to this fund. To the millions of Texans helping Harvey's victims in countless different ways, thank you."
